DUSSHERA-Junior English Essays-School Essays Collection

India is a land of many cultures an traditions. One of its very famous festivals is Vijaya Dashami or Dusshera.

This festival signifies the victory of good over evil. It is the day when Lord Ram killed Ravana.

In the morning people worship the Lord: All the members of the family pray that good may win over evil.

In the evening people assemble at a public, place. Here cultural programmes are held. At the end, an effigy of Ravana is burnt. This effigy is filled with crackers. Sometimes the effigies of Kumbhakarna and Megimad are also burnt. As the effigies are burnt, children jump and shout jubilantly "JAI SRI RAM". The elders pray that truth may prevail.

At many places the festival is celebrated for many days. Famous speakers retell the Ramayana. People enjoy listening to the immortal pastimes of Lord Ram.

Many grounds are called Ram Lila Grounds because this festival is celebrated there once a year.
