THE REPUBLIC DAY

The Republic Day is celebrated on 26th of January. It is on this day, in 1950 that India became Republic. From this day in 1950, the constitution of India compiled by a team headed by Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar came into effect. 

It is a public holiday and is celebrated all over India. In Delhi, the capital of India, there is special celebration. The preparations for these celebrations start at least a month in advance. 

The President of India accepts the salute of the march past. The Army, Navy & Air Force personnel perform a wonderful march past. They also display their latest weapons. N.C.C. cadets selected from all over India also take part in the march past. 

Cultural programs are also held. Every state and union territory is represented at this function. Many people come to the venue to watch the proceedings. There is heavy police security on this occasion. All the programs are broadcast live on television.
